CanIRetireCanada.ca is committed to protecting your privacy. We built this tool to help Canadians plan their retirement — not to monetize their personal data. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and how it's protected.
Information We Collect
- Calculator inputs — When you use our retirement calculator, all data (age, savings, income) stays in your browser session only. We do not store your personal financial data on our servers.
- AI chat questions — Questions you ask through our AI chat tool are logged (without personally identifiable information) to help us improve our content and identify gaps in our retirement planning guides.
- Site search — Search terms, the page searched from, and any selected result may be stored with a random session identifier so we can improve navigation and understand related searches within one browser-tab session. We do not attach names, email addresses, IP addresses, or advertising identifiers to these records, and queries that appear to contain contact information or sensitive identification numbers are not retained.
- Analytics — We use Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymized traffic data: pages viewed, session duration, and approximate geography (province/country level). No personal identity is collected.
How We Use Your Information
- Content improvement — Aggregated, anonymized AI chat questions help us identify topics where our guides need more depth.
- Search improvement — Session-grouped search events help us understand which retirement topics visitors look for together and where navigation can be improved.
- Site analytics — Traffic data helps us understand which tools and guides are most useful and improve the experience.
- We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties except as described above.
Cookies
- Strictly necessary — We use localStorage to save your theme preference (dark/light mode) and calculator results within your session.
- Search session storage — We store a random identifier in sessionStorage to connect searches made in the same browser tab. It expires when the tab session ends and is not used to identify you across devices.
- Analytics cookies — Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish visitors and track sessions anonymously. You can opt out via Google's opt-out browser add-on.
- We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels beyond Google Analytics.
Display Advertising
- CanIRetireCanada.ca may display advertising to support its free educational tools and content.
- Advertisers do not influence our editorial content, calculator results, or retirement-planning guidance.
- Display advertising is presented separately from editorial content.
Data Security
- Data submitted through forms is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Replit's infrastructure with encryption at rest.
- We do not store credit card numbers, SIN, or other highly sensitive identifiers.
- API communications are encrypted via TLS (HTTPS).
- You can request deletion of any data submitted through our forms by emailing us at the address below.
